Stay in the cottage...
A bit about the ideas behind
I have always dreamed of creating an accommodation space, a space that feels like home when you arrive, filled with creative energy, local art, indoor plants and collected furniture and kelims. A space that fuels. This is the very beginning of that journey.
When I moved out here from the city one of the things I felt was a feeling of spaciousness, both externally and internally. Creating this accommodation space was partly born out of a desire to share that with others. Visiting the space is about making space for yourself, giving yourself time away from the busy-ness of life, time to rest and refuel; maybe even heal and grow.
Ideal for small groups, small families or couples, the cottage has a homely and comfortable feel, with a squashy couch, kelims on the floor and art prints and originals on the walls.
The nitty-gritty about the space
The cottage is a spacious 2 bedroom self-catering cottage semi-detached from our house and on the same property as my pottery studio, with it's own entrance, off street parking for 1 car (and road parking for more cars) and it's own natural pool. It is situated in the quiet part of the village, a stones throw away from the Krans Nature Reserve.
There is a piano as well as a bookshelf loaded with all sorts of books from sheet music to novels and lots in between. There is also a selection of board games and cards. There is a wood burning stove, and you’ll be provided with a starter basket of wood (more can be bought in the village). As you can see in the pics there is a comfy lounge and a dining table that seats 4-6.
The kitchen has a kettle, toaster, gas stove and a microwave but no oven. Tea and instant coffee are provided as well as a french press and stove-top moka pot to make coffee but you'll need to bring your own filter coffee. Salt, pepper, olive oil and balsamic are also provided as well as all basic cooking utensils.
There is one bathroom with a bath and a shower which is en suite to the double bedroom but can be accessed from the hallway through the shower. There is also a separate guest loo. Towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided.
There is a double bedroom (with the en suite bathroom) and a twin bedroom. The beds are made up with 100% percale cotton linen and plush blankets and electric blankets in winter. There are ceiling and standing fans provided in summer as well as mosquito nets.
There is a front patio and front garden space with gorgeous morning sun. There is your own natural (chemical free) plunge pool. Swimming towels are provided. There is a small lawn space and a fire pit/ braai area (provided wood can be used here too). This space is fenced in and is totally your own while you are here.
There is a vegetable garden in the front of the property in the shape of a simple labyrinth. Please feel free to use this space; you can walk the labyrinth or sit on the chairs in the centre and watch the dog walkers go by but you may bump into us there, tending to or watering the plants. If you are sitting there we won’t disturb. Our entrance is next to yours so you may also bump into us arriving or leaving.
Other things to note
**Because the cottage is semi-detached you may hear (normal village neighbour sounds - we are quiet but not non-existent) or see us.
-Horses sometimes graze on the neighbouring field.
-If you are here to do some work and would like a more comfortable desk chair one can be provided.
-Please let me know if you need the crib and I will set it up for you before you come.
-If you need any extras/ have any special requirements please don't hesitate to ask and I will do my best to accommodate or advise.
Servicing (For longer stays)
If you are here for longer than 7 nights the cottage will be serviced once a week, unless you request otherwise.
There are no laundry facilities in the house but the laundromat is a 2 minute walk away.
